Condom comparison

Five thin condoms. One honest chart.

The five thin condoms you'll find side by side on the shelf, compared on what you can actually feel and what's actually in them: thickness, smell, chemicals and fit. Every number is sourced.

The verdict

Only P.S. checks all four boxes.

Some brands match P.S. on one or two. None of the other four match it on all of them. Open any card for the numbers behind it.

01

Thinnest

0.045 mm. Tied with Durex Invisible for the thinnest here, about 15% thinner than Trojan Ultra Thin, and still electronically tested.

Read the detailsHide the details+−

Condom thickness is measured in millimeters at the wall, and most standard latex condoms land around 0.065 to 0.070 mm. P.S. is 0.045 mm, which is about 40% thinner than a regular condom and the same as Durex Invisible, the thinnest condom Durex makes. Trojan publishes no measurement for Ultra Thin, but says it is "over 25% thinner than standard TROJAN condoms." Taking a standard Trojan at 0.070 mm, that puts Ultra Thin at about 0.053 mm, so P.S. is about 15% thinner. SKYN Elite is 0.050 mm in polyisoprene, which is a different material and not a like-for-like number.

Thinner only matters if it holds. Every P.S. condom is electronically tested and FDA 510(k) cleared, same as every condom sold in the US. The difference is you get the thin one without giving up the testing.

02

No smell

No casein, so no rubber smell, and vegan.

Read the detailsHide the details+−

P.S. condoms don't smell like rubber. That tire smell usually comes from casein, a milk protein many latex makers use to smooth the rubber. P.S. makes its natural latex without it, so there's no smell when you open the wrapper, and the condoms are vegan too.

Durex has said publicly that all of its latex condoms contain casein. LifeStyles says its condoms don't. Trojan doesn't say either way, but the way they smell, we have an idea. The chart reads "not disclosed" though rather than guessing.

03

Non-toxic

No PFAS detected and every ingredient published.

Read the detailsHide the details+−

Non-toxic means two things here: no forever chemicals, and nothing in the condom we won't name. In 2024 the consumer watchdog Mamavation sent 25 condoms and 4 lubricants to an EPA-certified lab to screen for PFAS, the "forever chemicals" used in non-stick and water-repellent coatings. The lab measured total organic fluorine, a standard marker for PFAS, and flagged anything at 10 parts per million or higher.

P.S. condoms came back with no organic fluorine detected. Mamavation put P.S. in its Best category, a rating it gave to only three condom brands, because P.S. also handed over its full list of materials and ingredients. Trojan Ultra Thin tested at 13 ppm and landed in Mamavation's "not our favorite" group. SKYN Elite and LifeStyles Ultra Sensitive were non-detect and rated Better. Durex Invisible wasn't in the test.

04

Your size

Snug 49, Regular 53 and XL 57 mm, same condom. No other brand here offers all three in one line.

Read the detailsHide the details+−

Width matters more than length, and the right width is the one that stays put. P.S. comes in Snug at 49 mm, Regular at 53 mm and XL at 57 mm, the same condom in every size. Trojan Ultra Thin and LifeStyles Ultra Sensitive come in one width. SKYN Elite adds a Large. Durex sells Invisible in close-fit and XL, but not in the US.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Are P.S. condoms thinner than Trojan Ultra Thin?+

P.S. condoms are 0.045 mm. Trojan doesn't publish a measurement for Ultra Thin, but says it is over 25% thinner than its standard condom. Taking a standard Trojan at 0.070 mm, that's about 0.053 mm, so P.S. is about 15% thinner.

Are P.S. condoms thinner than Durex Invisible?+

They're the same thickness. Both are 0.045 mm. The differences are casein, which Durex uses and P.S. doesn't, and ingredient disclosure.

Which condoms are PFAS-free?+

In Mamavation's 2024 lab test, P.S., SKYN Elite, LifeStyles Ultra Sensitive and several others had no PFAS indicators detected. Trojan Ultra Thin tested at 13 ppm organic fluorine. Durex Invisible wasn't tested.

Why does my condom smell like rubber?+

Usually casein, a milk protein used to smooth latex. P.S. condoms are made without it, which is why they're vegan and why there's no smell.

Are P.S. condoms vegan?+

Yes. Natural latex, no casein, no animal ingredients.

Do P.S. condoms come in a snug or XL size?+

Yes. Snug is 49 mm wide, Regular is 53 mm and XL is 57 mm. All three are sold here and Regular and Snug are available at CVS.

Are P.S. condoms cleared by the FDA?+

FDA 510(k) cleared, which is the standard for every condom sold in the US. Each P.S. condom is also electronically tested.

  20. Trojan Ultra Thin thickness, our estimate: Trojan publishes no measurement. We start from 0.070 mm for a standard Trojan condom, the top of the usual 0.065 to 0.070 mm range for standard latex (WorldCondoms lists 0.070 mm on its Ultra Thin page, source 5; we read that as the standard-condom figure). Trojan says Ultra Thin is "over 25% thinner" than standard (source 4): 0.070 mm × (1 − 0.25) = 0.0525 mm, rounded to 0.053 mm. Because Trojan says "over" 25%, the real figure may be slightly lower. At that estimate, P.S. at 0.045 mm is about 15% thinner.
  21. SKYN Elite thickness: 0.050 mm is the WorldCondoms retailer spec (source 12). SKYN itself publishes no mm figure and says only that Elite is 15% thinner than SKYN Original (source 11). Elite is polyisoprene, not latex, so the number is not a like-for-like comparison.

PFAS note. The PFAS indicators row comes from Mamavation's 2024 lab test (published February 2024, updated May 2024). An EPA-certified lab measured total organic fluorine and flagged results at 10 ppm or higher. Durex Invisible was not part of the test.
